On your table.
Stand a saved game on a real table through your iPhone's camera, and play it through where you sit.
- 40cm
- across when it lands
- 1.2m
- across at most; pinch it as small as 20cm
- 0
- pictures recorded or sent
The board is drawn by the phone over the camera. Nothing from the camera leaves it unless you take a photo to share.
A third view.
On iPhones and iPads that can track the room, the board switch on a saved game reads 2D, 3D and AR. Choose AR and the game opens on your table at the same move. Leave, and you are back in 2D or 3D as it was.
Find a table, tap to place.
Move the phone slowly over a table or the floor. When a surface is found, a square outline lies on it: tap to put the board there. Pinch to size it, drag to move it, twist to turn it.
Play it through.
The same previous, Play and next as the game page. Pieces glide from square to square, captures sink away, and the last move is marked in teal. Turn the phone on its side, or use an iPad, and the board stays where it is.
With Arasan, if you like.
When the game page shows Arasan's analysis, the table does too: a thin bar standing beside the board and, at a key moment, Arasan's better move as an arrow above the pieces. It uses the analysis saved in your book; Arasan does not run while the camera is on.
Your notes, and a photo.
Your note on the move sits under it. The photo button takes a picture of the board on your table and opens the share sheet.
When it cannot see.
If the room is too dark it says so: turn on a light, or go back to the game. If it loses the table, move the phone slowly over it and the board comes back where it was.
In detail.
- Phones
- iPhones and iPads that support augmented reality. Elsewhere the switch shows 2D and 3D, with nothing greyed out.
- Camera
- Asked once, the first time you choose AR, and on only on this screen. Without it, the 3D board still works.
- Sent
- Nothing. The camera picture is used on the phone to find the table.
- Games
- Any saved game, and Review move by move. Never a game being recorded.
- Size
- About 40cm across when placed; pinch from 20cm to 1.2m.
- Feel
- A knock as the board lands and as each piece settles. With Reduce Motion, pieces move at once.
