Fair play,
by design.
While you play, Plyfolio is a scoresheet. Nothing more.
While you record, it shows
- Your moves, as you wrote them
- The move number and whose turn it is
- Whether the game is saved
It never shows
- A board
- An evaluation
- A suggested move
- Engine lines
- Anything from the internet
For arbiters
and organisers.
Recording works with the phone offline. The screen shows the moves and nothing else, so it is quick to check.
Review with Stockfish only opens once a game is saved as finished. It cannot be reached from the recording screen.
Accurate entry: the keypad knows the position, so keys that cannot make a legal move dim and x, + and # are completed, so a mistyped move cannot go in. It never suggests what to play. A Strict entry setting turns this off where an arbiter wants a plain scoresheet.
Ask first.
Most events have rules about phones in the playing hall. Ask the arbiter or organiser before you use Plyfolio at a tournament or a club match.
General information, written 4 November 2026. This is not a ruling and rules change: check the rules for your event, such as the FIDE Laws of Chess or your national federation's rules, before you rely on it.
