Price and paying
How much is Plyfolio?
£9.99, once, on the App Store or Google Play. Everything in the app is included. No subscription, no adverts, no extras to buy.
Do I pay again for updates?
No. Updates are free, including the camera features when they arrive.
I have an iPhone and an Android tablet. Do I pay twice?
Yes, sorry. Apple and Google keep purchases separate, so one does not cover the other. Your games can move between them through Google Drive sync or a PGN export.
Can I get a refund?
Refunds are handled by Apple or Google, under their rules. The contact page explains how to ask each.
At the board
Can I use Plyfolio at a tournament?
Only if the arbiter or organiser allows it. Most events have rules about phones in the playing hall, so always ask first. Plyfolio is not a certified electronic scoresheet.
What does the recording screen show?
Your moves, the move number, whose turn it is and whether the game is saved. No board, no evaluation, no suggestions.
Does it check my moves?
Yes, as you type: keys that cannot make a legal move dim, and x, + and # are completed, so a mistyped move cannot go in. It never suggests what to play. If your arbiter wants a plain scoresheet, turn on Strict entry in Settings, Recording.
What if I miss a move?
Leave a gap and carry on. Fill it in after the game. Plyfolio never guesses.
Your games and privacy
Do I need an account?
No. Plyfolio works without one. Your games are saved on your phone.
Does it work offline?
Yes, all of it: recording, the library, players and Stockfish review. Only sync needs a connection, and only if you turn it on.
What do you collect?
Nothing from the app: no analytics, no adverts, no tracking. The privacy notice has the details.
What happens if I lose my phone?
If sync or backups were on, install Plyfolio on the new phone and bring your library back from Google Drive or iCloud. If not, the games were only on the old phone.
PGN and other apps
Can I bring in my Lichess or Chess.com games?
Yes. Download them as a PGN file, then choose Add game and Import file. The how-to guide shows where the download buttons are.
Can I send games to ChessBase or another program?
Yes. Plyfolio exports standard PGN, which every chess program reads.
Are my notes kept in the PGN?
Yes, as comments, and side lines as variations.
Coming later
Can it read a photo of my scoresheet?
Not yet. It will arrive in a free update once it works reliably on real phones, and until then we say so plainly.
Will there ever be a subscription?
No. Plyfolio is one payment. If we ever make something very different, it will be a separate app you can ignore.
Is there an iPad or tablet version?
Plyfolio is made for phones first. A layout for larger screens is on the roadmap, and this answer will change when it is ready.
