Features, record

Played on paper?

Type the game in from your scoresheet, move by move, or scan the sheet and check what it read.

1. e4 e52. Nf3 d63. d4 Bg4

The Opera Game, copied from the sheet a move at a time. Nf3 is three taps, and a move goes in by itself once only one fits.

Copy the sheet.

From Add game, or Type in a game on the Record tab. The header first, with the same players, places and time controls as New game, then a sheet laid out like the paper one: numbered rows, a White and a Black column.

Our keypad, never the phone keyboard.

The notation keypad with accurate entry, as at the board. Tap any filled cell to change it, and every later move is checked again. A blank on the paper stays a gap, never filled in.

Sheet and board.

Switch to the board to see the position after any move you have typed. Typing up a finished game is not recording, so the board is allowed; there is no engine and no suggestion.

Times and notes.

If the sheet has the clock written by each move, turn on Add times and type it in. Add a note to any move as you go.

Or scan the sheet.

Choose Scan a scoresheet and Plyfolio takes you through the sheet in parts: the whole sheet, the header, then the moves fifteen rows at a time. The photos are read on the phone and never uploaded.

You check every move.

A reading is kept only when it is a legal move in the position. A box it cannot read, or that reads as a move that cannot be played, is shown with its photo for you to fix on the keypad. Any move it read can be changed too, and the game is saved only when every problem is settled.

Linked to your book.

White, Black, the place and the time control open New game's pickers with what was read as the search: choose a player or place you have, or add a new one. Only notation is kept: a move number or a scribble is never saved as a move.

In detail.

Where
Add game, and Type in a game on the Record tab. After the game only, never on a recording screen.
Typing
The notation keypad with accurate entry; Strict entry applies too. A move goes in by itself when only one fits.
Gaps
A blank on the sheet stays a gap. Nothing is guessed.
Times
Optional, typed as written and kept as the clock left after each move.
Scanning
Read on the phone with its own text recognition. The photos stay on it and are never uploaded.
Reads best
Clear handwriting in good light. The Plyfolio scoresheet (A4, A5 or US Letter) carries a code that lines each part up exactly; other clubs' sheets work too, with a few more taps.
Saved as
A normal game, marked over the board, saying where it came from.
