Plyfolio or a PGN viewer?
A viewer opens a file. Plyfolio keeps every game with its players, places and ratings, and records at the board.
Fair, factual and dated: 4 November 2026.
When a viewer is enough.
If someone sends you a game and you want to play through it once, any viewer will do, including our free one in the browser. No need to buy anything.
When you want a library.
When the games are your own and you want them together: every club game, every congress, with the people you played and where, notes on the moves and ratings beside them. That is what Plyfolio is for.
Our free viewer in the browser.
Paste a PGN, play through it, see the comments and side lines. It runs in your browser and nothing is stored or sent.
What it costs.
The viewer is free. Plyfolio is £9.99 once, with every feature and every update, no subscription and no account.
Written 4 November 2026. "Some do" and "rarely" describe the PGN viewers we looked at on that date; individual apps differ and change. General information, not advice.
