Plyfolio 1.0 is the version we will launch with, on iPhone and Android, for £9.99 once. The launch date is still to be announced. This is what it does, and what is coming later.
Recording at the board
A notation keypad with every piece, file, rank and sign, both castlings and promotion. The keypad follows the position, so a move that cannot be played cannot go in by mistake, and the recording screen shows notation and nothing else: no board, no engine, no hints. Missed a move? Leave a gap and carry on. Every move is saved as you add it, so a phone call or a flat battery loses nothing.
Your library
Every game in one place, in plain PGN. Import by pasting or from a file, one game or many thousands, and export any game or folder as PGN. Folders, search and filters. A study board with side lines, in 2D or 3D, with notes, bookmarks and saved positions.
People, places and ratings
Players with photos, places, a head to head against each opponent and a page of your own results. Rating tracks for ECF, FIDE, Chess.com, Lichess and any of your own, each with a dated history. You type the ratings in; nothing is fetched yet.
Review
Arasan runs on your phone, for finished games only. It marks the key moments in words and numbers, and you can step through them with your own notes beside them. It never runs while a game is being recorded.
Your games stay yours
Plyfolio works offline. There is no account and no sign-up. If you want a copy elsewhere, sync and backups go to your own Google Drive or iCloud, never to a server of ours. The app has no analytics.
Made like a book
Plyfolio is black and white with one teal ribbon to mark your place. Pages turn like a book, pieces glide when you step through a game, and you can feel a light tap when a move is accepted. Motion and haptics each have their own setting, and Plyfolio follows your phone's Reduce Motion setting.
Free tools on this website
Some of the same work is free on this website, in your browser, with nothing stored or sent: a PGN viewer, a PGN checker that finds the move that is wrong, a board image maker, a printable scoresheet maker and a notation trainer. They are useful whether or not you buy the app.
Coming later
Some things are designed but are not in 1.0, because they are not ready yet. They will arrive in free updates when they work on real phones:
- Scanning a paper scoresheet, with every unsure move shown for you to check.
- Recording together, on two phones paired at the board.
- Bringing in your public Lichess and Chess.com games when you ask.
- An optional ECF rating lookup.
- A layout for tablets.
There are no dates on any of these. The roadmap lists them as they stand, and the release notes will say when each one arrives.
The price
£9.99, once. Every feature and every update, with no subscription and no account. If it is not for you, refunds go through the App Store or Google Play in the usual way.
