Draft, embargoed until the launch date is set
Plyfolio, a £9.99 chess scoresheet app with no board while you play, launches on iPhone and Android
Launch date to be announced.
Remiam Limited, the company behind the app, today released Plyfolio, a chess scoresheet and game library for iPhone and Android, priced at £9.99 with no subscription and no account.
Plyfolio lets players record their games at the board on a large notation keypad. While a game is recorded the screen shows notation only: no board, no evaluation and no suggested moves. Plyfolio checks that a move is legal and nothing more, and says plainly that whether a phone may be used is for each event's rules and arbiter to decide.
After the game, every recording is kept in a PGN library alongside games imported from Lichess, Chess.com or congress bulletins, with the players, places and ratings around them, including ECF and FIDE ratings. Finished games can be reviewed with Arasan, a strong chess engine, running on the phone, with no daily limit and no connection needed.
Plyfolio collects nothing about the people who use it. Games are saved on the phone and, if the player chooses, synced to their own Google Drive or iCloud.
Reading a game from a photo of a scoresheet, the feature players ask about most, is being built and will arrive in a free update once it works reliably on real phones.
